Post New Super Mario Wii
IGN review - 8.9/10

Quote:
I really, really like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I have no qualms with saying this is a far better game than the Nintendo DS version, and it could easily be the finest Super Mario Bros. 2D platformer Nintendo's ever created. You should absolutely get a copy, no question.

But, and it's a big "but," Nintendo did not use this opportunity wisely. For as big a project as this could have been, this game's impact is weakened by many factors. It plays it safe with established gameplay with very little in the way of new innovation. It also lacks online multiplayer in a generation where such a feature is expected.

I had a great time plowing through all eight worlds (and then some), but the nagging feeling of it seeming like a step backwards kept creeping in. As a gamer I love New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but as a critic I just couldn't let the issues slide.

Would like to play this but doubt i ever will. Unless scooter gets it.

Post Re: New Super Mario Wii
Got this for christmas and I like it, although I haven't seriously played it. Played it with the kids and they don't care about exploring the levels they just want to blast thru as fast as they can and if you don't keep up, you die (I blame that on the invention games with respawn....and spongebob) Seriously, what happened to games where if you use up your lives, YOU HAVE TO START OVER!

But it does have the look and feel of the old Mario Bros. Crunch all the mario bros games together and this would come out. But I kinda like this, I don't play games much and so familiararity draws me in. Playing with multiple players is stressful especially with kids who think the first to the end wins. And there are parts of the game that you can't get thru without help. Also, as long as one player has lives left all the other players can continue forever. And there is this crazy bubble thing, if yo get into trouble just hit the A button and you turn into a bubble and float to whichever player is in the lead. So if you get to a difficult part that needs some thinking, maybe some strategy, what do you do? Run and jump as fast as you can and if it doesn't work out, bubble back. Repeat as neccessary, until you accidently do it the right way.

Played this a bit at scooter the other day. Was fun. Used the Wiimote though. Would be better with Wii Classic controller.
